From the Capital City Weekly Community Calendar

These are things that I found in the current CCW that I think would be of interest to Max, and worth telling him about, encouraging him, and taking him to. Max likes new experiences. If they don't work out, fine. If they do, they help build a happy and worthwhile life for Max. Please keep YOUR eyes open, bulletin boards etc. There's a lot out there I notice every time I am in Juneau.

Friday March 30
CLASS: Aqua Zumba 6:30-7:30 p.m., Dimond Park Aquatic Center, Ages 16 and up, $6 per person. (I would pay for ISS to attend with Max - great cardio activity with dance elements in a swimming pool. He used to swim 2-3 nights a week. The chlorine is good for his skin. He takes a long time in the locker room but is familiar with pool routines.) Details? call 586-AQUA.

Saturday March 31
EVENT: Juneau Community Health Fair 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Nugget Mall. Free health and safety education, health screening, lots of free stuff to gather up while wandering from table to table. Get your blood pressure checked!

Sunday April 1
EVENT: April Fools Party 1-2 p.m. The Canvas Community Art Studio downtown $5 per person (I will pay for ISS too; get $10 at ATM) Details: www.canvasarts.org or 586-1750

EVENT: Juneau Cabaret 7 p.m. Juneau Arts and Culture Center downtown. Pay-as-you-can preview performance of local performers. Details: Laura Haywood, 723-7960.

Monday April 2
CLASS: Aqua Zumba 6:30-7:30 p.m., Dimond Park Aquatic Center, Ages 16 and up, $6 per person. (I would pay for ISS to attend with Max - great cardio activity with dance elements in a swimming pool. He used to swim 2-3 nights a week. The chlorine is good for his skin. He takes a long time in the locker room but is familiar with pool routines.) Details? call 586-AQUA.

Tuesday April 3
CLASS: English and Citizenship 5-6:30 p.m. The Learning Connection, 210 Ferry Way. For adult learners. All speaking levels welcome. Free. Details: 586-5718. WHY NOT? Max has an interest in learning that we need to support.

TRAINING: "Man Training"
5:30-8:30 p.m. Tlingit Haida Regional Housing Authority, 5446 Jenkins Drive. Sponsored by Juneau's Violence Prevention Coalition. Details: 586-6610 or markc@awareak.org WHY NOT? This has to include some anger management and Max has history and needs in this area. He's also interested in what it means to be a man.

Please
try some of these opportunities for Max. The Aqua Zumba is cheaper than the gym, others are free or low cost. Get busy with Max = less sedentary time at home.

  1. I LOVE the idea of 'man training' where Max can participate in a preventative class, and may very well be able to pick up some tips for combatting angry outbursts...I see it is on Tuesday, though, and not sure if that interferes with Puppy clss?

  2. It does - there are only 2 more puppy classes, though, and hopefully these offerings will repeat after mid-April.
